Moor Eye Care An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who specialises in eye and vision care. Ophthalmologists differ from optometrists and opticians in their levels of training and in what they can diagnose and treat. As a medical doctor who has completed 5 years of medical school and at least 9 years of additional medical training, an ophthalmologist is licensed to practice medicine and surgery. An ophthalmologist diagnoses and treats all eye diseases, performs eye surgery and prescribes medication to correct vision problems. Many ophthalmologists are also involved in scientific research on the causes and cures for eye diseases and vision disorders.

Dry Eye is a very common problem that has many different causes. It is essential to perform a complete examination to find the treatment that is right for you.
Blepharitis is a common condition of inflammation of the eyelids that is often associated with eyelid crusts and scales. This condition can lead to infection of the eyelids and associated glands (hordeolum) and irritation of the eye. Blepharitis can occur on the outside of the eyelid where your eyelashes are attached (anterior blepharitis) or behind the eyelashes on the eyelid margin within the Meibomian glands (posterior blepharitis) .
Rosacea is a condition that affects the skin on the face and eyelids. When present in the eyes and eyelids this is known as ocular rosacea.
The diagnosis of rosacea may be made by your medical doctor, a skin doctor (dermatologist) or your ophthalmologist. This is done by simple examination of the skin and eyes by your doctor. Your ophthalmologist will also look at the surface of your eye to evaluate if the condition has caused any damage.
Epiphora is the term commonly used to describe a watery eye. It is one of the most common eye symptoms and has many causes. In this condition tears spill over and overwhelm the eye’s drainage system. This may be due to blocked drainage of the eye or a defect in the lacrimal pump function. This condition can interfere with vision and irritation of the surrounding skin due to constant wiping of tears.

Tear Drainage System
Tear Drainage System
The lacrimal gland produces tears. These tears drain through two small openings called the upper and lower puncta, then through the canaliculus and into the lacrimal sac. They drop into the nasolacrimal duct and drain into the back of the nose and throat. Learn more about the tear drainage system at http://www.geteyesmart.org.

It is not just Mr. Pandit's expertise and extensive knowledge that sets him apart from other consultants, but also his caring attitude. He obviously sees his patients as individual human beings, whose needs will be different according to their history and lifestyle. In 63 years of having my eye condition, he is the first consultant who has actually taken me seriously, seeing the condition in a wider context, realising the less obvious problems this causes.

In addition, I am extremely happy with the care given to my cataract operation, which has resulted in my having good eyesight for the first time in my life! Mrs. Pandit is also a kind, caring asset to the team. If you have doubts about having a consultation, banish them now!

Took my daughter along this morning to investigate some ongoing problems with headaches and pain behind her eyes. Mr Pandit undertook a series of eye tests to identify what was going on and managed to isolate some possible causes, where everyone else before had failed. Mr Pandit and Tracy are complete professionals and have created a very welcoming and caring environment. I even got some good advice for my own eyes. I can’t thank them enough for helping us - I now have a daughter who is much more positive about the future.
