A regular eye examination is an essential part of your overall eye health and can detect problems and changes in your vision. Unfortunately, some eye conditions can lead to a loss of vision or even permanent blindness. Done regularly, an eye examination can help to prevent the onset of eye diseases and prevent deterioration in your sight.
An eye examination takes just 30 minutes, in which time our optometrists will thoroughly check your vision and the health of your eyes. An eye examination is not uncomfortable, and your optometrist will use a range of different methods and equipment to check your eyes.

I have had many vision problems over the years, all swiftly diagnosed by Steve. The stress of urgent appointments is always ameliorated by the genuine kindness and positive attitude of such a lovely team. Openshaw Opticians has been invaluable in my ongoing vision care, I certainly wouldn’t cope half as well without them.
Thankful to have such an excellent local service.

Fantastic service both by phone and in person, Steve got me in really quickly when my eye problem didn't ease after a few days. He Sent me to Pinderfields as I had a really bad infection which needed further testing. Steve saw me again today after completing my 6 - 7 weeks of drops. Can not fault Openshaws. Would definitely recommend them to anyone needing a check up

Myself and my family regularly use Openshaw's from our routine eye examinations to purchasing all of our classes. Steve is brilliant he is fantastic with the Children making it fun and he is equally great with the grown ups too - I've never had an examination where I have the full outcomes explained at any of the big high street opticians and Steve explains everything he is brilliant The front of house service is fantastic - I have always had the phone answered when I've called and even have text communication where appropriate - Nothing is ever too much trouble for them - we would never go anywhere else

There was a mark on my new pair of glasses. It appeared to be a scratch and after trying glass wipes to remove it, I went back to the opticians to get a replacement pair. The optometrist here recommended a different prescription to what I had originally but my eyes were drawing out too much. The optometrist advised me that he will replace the glasses with the original prescription if I can't get used to the new prescription.
After wearing the glasses, I knew I needed the strength from my original prescription, so when I went back to get replacement glasses (because of the scratch and the different prescription) one of the receptionists said "It's just from a white marker. All gone." This is where it started to go downhill. Why were my glasses not checked prior to me being advised they are ready to be picked up?
Any marks should have been removed by them beforehand. They agreed to replace them, but then I said I'd like my original prescription applied because the new prescription is too uncomfortable for me. They told me I need to book an appointment to see the optometrist again. Apparently, you need to see the optometrist to use an existing prescription that he is aware of.
In other words, complete rubbish! This is when one of the receptionist staff started to become very rude to me; and as a consequence of her behaviour, I terminated the contract and asked for a refund. I questioned why I needed to see the optometrist for an existing prescription which is identical to the glasses I've worn for over two years and for which their optometrist was aware of.
The lady's response? "We can't just make up numbers". Later on, she said "well clearly you've got a problem with every optometrist" after I questioned why both their optometrist and the one across the road keeps recommending prescriptions that don't work for me. If I could use strong language to describe my disgust at her behaviour, I would. But I want to make sure this review is published so people can think twice before choosing this practice. Please go elsewhere. After I left with my refund, I promptly went to Smith & Hughes instead and what a contrast - polite, helpful and reassuring.
