I visited Shaylers opticians in May, following a fall whilst on holiday in Swanage and went to Shaylers for an assessment on my right eye as I had had a fall and my eye was very bruised. Mr Shayler was so very kind and also advised me that I could do with new lenses for my glasses and was brilliant. I thoroughly recommend this optician.

Very unfriendly and unhelpful lady at the reception, made my 7 year old son cry and me feel very unwelcome from the start. Eyes rolling and abnoxious, why do they even book children in. Uses covid to treat people with disrespect. Handed me the questionnaire to fill in then accused me for standing to close to her. She said I should have done that before to reduce my time in the building while our appointment was already late and the optician came into the building 30 minutes late.
We were first patients. Told my son has to wear a mask, I tried to get him to do it but he wouldn’t, made him feel bad about it. When finally optician called us in I explained that I tried to make my son wear a mask he then gave us a lecture about my son having to wear a mask as children are more dangerous as they are asymptomatic. My son started to cry he was so unpleasant.
I asked him why as according to law children below age 12 don’t have to wear a mask. Both him and I were wearing a mask and he was also wearing a visor. He said I shouldn’t be arguing about it with him, that we are offensive, we are not thinking about him and his family. I asked him why did they even book us. I took my son and walked out in tears.
They shouldn’t be open. Would have preferred to be told not to book an appointment rather than to experience such horrible treatment. Unfortunately complete waste of of time and terrible beginning to child’s day.

I have been having optical exams here since I was a child. Dr Shayler does a fantastic job, he is kind, proffessional and very thorough. He has addressed and previously corrected small changes that would have developed into issues if not treated early enough. The whole team care about the patients and will help you with anything you need, from your eye exam to helping you choose new frames etc. Don't go to specsavers, go here.

Shaylers is a fantastic service. Went there for vision therapy after my child was struggling at school with headaches despite testing fine on ‘normal’ vision tests. After being successfully treated for convergence problems, my child no longer dislikes reading and is engaged with their school work. This all occurred during the routine tests and we were lucky enough to not have to go down the route of the intensive course - but had they needed it we would have without a second thought, such is the trust we have in this practice.
Geoff Shayler is a godsend to Optometry, and we are so lucky to have a Behavioural Optometrist so close. Every parent would do well to have their child’s eyes checked out by him... just in case.

We were recommended Shaylers by friends, my son had always received the same report at parents Evening that he was struggling in English and his writing was awful, and yet he was a high achiever in other areas. I couldn’t get him to read, it was a battle. We brought him in for an assessment and his peripheral vision was incredibly limited, and his eyes weren’t working together.
He went through vision therapy and he is thriving! We came out of therapy and I asked Monty what he’d noticed as a significant change....I can see you walking beside me mum! I have beaten myself up about taking so long to get this looked into, but after two weeks of therapy he’s fine!!! And after his first review he’s still improving!! Monty had been in hospital care from the age of 5 until the age of 8, and they’d said they’ve done all they can.... after therapy at Shaylers he’s doing so well and made incredible progress! I can’t thank them enough

My son had vision therapy at Shaylers a few year ago. As a baby / toddler he was forever bumping into things , stumbling and tripping ,we were referred to have orthotics insoles in his shoes. This helped a little but as he started school it was pretty obvious there were other issues, he wasn't keeping up with his peers with his education. He really struggled to read , didn't remember things and generally didn't like school.
At 7years old I had him dyslexia tested privately as school were not really on board, this was our turning point! We were recommended to Jeff as my son was only mildly dyslexic but there was a problem with his vision. After vision therapy my son has made immense progress in all areas of his life. He is sitting his GCSEs next year and all of his predictions are above a pass!!
He has excelled at sport he is representing Dorset at a development level. He is happy, has great friends and is a typical teenager, I feel that if he hadn't had vision therapy he really would be a sullen teenager hating school still and really struggling to cope with life. Thank you Jeff
