Husband and wife Optometrists, Gary Orriss and Ruth Low first opened their practice in Winscombe in 1986. Their aim was to serve the optical needs of local people, as well as provide a range of specialist services that would attract others from further afield. 34 years on, they have both taken additional training and continue to offer independent and impartial advice.
As someone who cares about seeing as well as you possibly can, it is essential to have your eyes checked thoroughly and regularly. Your eyes are unique and deserve the best care and attention. As a truly independent practice, Orriss and Low strive to be at the forefront of eye care. You will benefit from impartial and independent advice, whatever your concerns.
If the examination suggests an abnormality, further tests may be advised. These tests can be carried out in a hospital, or you may choose for us to do them for you. A fee will be charged. Your Optometrist will explain the options to you. With advanced Optomap imaging you can see a lot more of the Retina (The Back of the Eye) in comparison to standard equipment.
Extended NHS Examinations can give more time to discuss learning difficulties or contact lenses. Remediation of any problems can make a big difference to education and vision in later life. If your child has a family history of an eye condition, a check is a good way to be reassured. Children don't know how the world should look and very rarely complain of not seeing well.
Myopia also known as short-sightedness is a vision condition in which people can see close/near objects clearly, but objects farther away appear blurred. Increasing myopia puts patients at a higher risk of developing retinal tears, detachments and glaucoma. Have your child's myopia diagnosed early as it not only corrects their vision now, but can help slow the progression of myopia and preserve their vision and eye health for the future.

1st day of our holiday in the area and found wife had left her contact lenses at home - Boots (who she has been a customer of 15 years could not help) While driving, by chance found Orriss and Low - James could not have been more helpfull, not only contacting her Options in Kent, but supplying 2 boxes of lenses to last our stay - A1 customer service all given with understanding and a smile - Cannot thank the staff enough for their kindness and help. If we lived in the area would deffinately use this shop. recommended.
